Bienvenue

Fed up of struggling with learning French?

You think:
"it's too complicated.
I'll never be able to say what I want in French so, what's the point?!
".

I get it. I've been there (with English, with Spanish, with Latin, with German, Japanese, with Korean, with Breton, with Ukrainian...).

Become one of my students and you'll never doubt yourself again.

Whether you are:

        => sitting an exam

=> preparing for the French citizenship

        => learning for fun

Learn French, Think French

This person
here
is me,
Miss H.

Who am I ?

  • Native French speaker (proud to be Breton)

  • Linguist: learnt English, Spanish, Latin and German at school

  • Forever a learner: so far, self-taught basics in Italian, Ukranian, Korean, Japanese

  • Master FLE 2014: taught French as second (third, or more) language to primary schools kids, students at university and prisoners (true story)

  • PGDE 2015

  • GCSE and SQA exam certifications expert (A Levels, N5, Higher and Advanced Higher Tutor since 2010)

  • SQA marker + Visiting Assessor since 2022 (I get to mark exams and conduct them too)

  • Described by students as: "always patient", "so caring",  "very kind" and "funny", and described by colleagues as "very creative", "genuine",  "warm", and "reliable"

  • Marathon runner (I don't give up easily )

My name is Sophie Hanry, although I love the more official title, which is how my students call me:"Miss H".

Born and raised in Dinan, in Brittany, on the (lovely) North West coast of France, my curiosity for discovering the British culture got satisfied in 2011 when I made the move, and became a language assistant in Kent, in England. And my master for International Trade and Marketing came to an end, simply because my passion for teaching (runs in the family) could not hold it anymore. After getting a master degree in teaching at the Université de Strasbourg, and the University of Glasgow, I have been a fully qualified French, and Spanish, teacher since 2015

And since I am also passionate about supporting people reaching their goal beyond the classroom, I also started tutoring... and writing books to help even more people who would love to be good at French.

My mission is to support you reaching your goal in learning French. Whether that goal is to fit in like a native speaker, pass your exam, get your citizenship, or more casually to get by when on holidays, I've got your back.

And this here,
that is my teaching assistant: Monsieur Pingouin

What makes the Learn French, Think French method unique

The specificity of the method is its focus on the major challenges of learning French:

- the pronunciation: a made up a phonetics way to pronounce words accurately, based on how the British speak English.

- the perspective: think French, make connections with your own language and find a new perspective to see things, to get the vocabulary and grammar to finally stick in your head.

For example, every book  contains:
- vocabulary, from individual words to short phrases , focusing on pronunciation : how the words sound like,

- QR code directing to a private
Padlet to hear the words as you read them and the option to
record yourself saying them, for practice,  and feedback

- translation: way that French people think so vocabulary sticks in your head
better
-exercises to practice at the end of each mission, and their answers so you can work on this in your own time and at your own pace,
- examples of authentic scripted conversations

- a final quiz to check your level and progress

If you struggle with your French, know that you are not the only one.
